**This essay is the next in a series that deals with the topic of caring for an aging loved one, namely my mother. Be advised that these are intended to deal with a serious issue, in a lighthearted and humorous way. Feel free to peruse those linked stories for more background or information.**
My mother has recently become obsessed with the chicken sandwich from the fast food restaurant Popeye’s. So occasionally, it’s a meal we share when I visit. The following conversations are from two separate visits.
Chicken Nuggets
Me: Eating chicken nuggets.
Mom: “Did you get regular or spicy?”
Me: “Damn. They make spicy ones?
Mom: “Oh, they come in spicy?”
Me: “What!?”
Mom: “What?”
Me: “Are you asking or telling?”
Mom: “I could ask or tell you the same thing.”
Me: “What!?”
Mom: “What?”
Me: ……….“Is there BBQ sauce in the fridge?”
Mom: “Yeah, guy.”
Mac & Cheese
Pre-excursion:
Mom: “Make sure you get some of their mac & cheese, guy. It’s to die for.”
Me: “Oh nice, will do. Thanks.”
Post-excursion:
Me: Eating mac & cheese.
Mom: “So how’s that mac & cheese? Is it worth getting?
Me: “What!?”
Mom: “What?”
Me: “Are you saying you haven’t had it?”
Mom: “Maybe?”
Me: “Mom, you just got done selling me tickets to a show that had mac & cheese as the headliner. But you’ve never had it?”
Mom: “Perhaps?”
Me:............ “It’s pretty damn good.”
Mom: “I knew it.”
It reminds me of the old TV show “Burns and Allen“ I think that was George Burns, and Gracie Allen
I am laughing, so hard!, That I had to stop reading so I could catch my breath! And it’s so true. I don’t know how you haven’t lost your mind. LOL, L O L,!!
