Reflections
A photo essay.
Glass-like reflections of a majestic landscape on a still river, lake, bay, or beach are inherently alluring. But I enjoy imperfect mirrorings just as much. When movement, flow, gaps, or objects in the water distort the image, break up the symmetry, leave holes in the reflection, or add texture and intrigue to the foreground—the sort of things that give a scene life.
I recently taught a writing workshop about the power and value of vulnerability in writing. In it, I state, “Embrace imperfection. Perfection makes vulnerability impossible and erases the opportunity for deeper connection.” I think to some degree, the same can be said for photography. Especially in a world where soulless or strangely off-putting AI images increasingly proliferate our social media feeds and advertisements.
That said, there are a few damn near flawless reflections in this collection. But they had nothing to do with me or an algorithm, and everything to do with Mother.

Wonderful. I especially like the photos with the front of a boat easing into the reflected scene. And I'm going to keep this quote close: “Embrace imperfection. Perfection makes vulnerability impossible and erases the opportunity for deeper connection.” Thank you, Adam.
Beautiful 🤩 thank you for sharing the imperfections of perfect!
