Named after the colorful terrestrial flowering plant, sea anemones are a group of predatory marine invertebrates constituting the order Actiniaria. They can be striking creatures, especially if you’re not a regular around tidepools. They vary greatly in size, shape, texture, color, and overall presentation depending on whether they are underwater or not.
Their tentacles can appear artificially fluorescent, and their oral discs look like handblown or marbled glass. The structure, proportions, textures, and patterns of their body columns run the gamut and are often home to various fragments of seafloor detritus. And they are a joy to photograph.
